siri transcribes me singing

my friend adam, formerly of wikibloogia fame, has a new blog that is really funny. he has a new iphone and it has a robot called Siri inside of it and if you talk to the robot, the robot can do things for you, like take dictation. so instead of using this amazing technology in a nerdy way, adam likes to sing classic songs to the robot and see how the robot types the song out. it's usually hilarious. i recommend checking it out. here: http://siritranscribesmesinging.wordpress.com/

Dirty Cigarette Rain Water

Did I ever tell you guys about the band I used to be in called Dirty Cigarette Rain Water? Every show we'd drink a dirty ashtray filled with rain water on stage. We'd all cheer each other on and dance around. It was a real spectacle.

Then the drought came. We didn't play a show for weeks. The band announced an official hiatus. We hated to do it, but we knew the show couldn't go on without rain water. We discussed having some shipped in from a nearby rainy town, but we worried our hardcore local fans would see this as "selling out."

When the rains came again, the band talked about doing more shows. But the more we talked about it, the easier it was for us all to admit that we didn't really like drinking dirty cigarette rain water on account of it tasted yucky. We tried to do a show without drinking any dirty cigarette rain water, but it didn't really go so well.  Backstage, after the show, I was feeling pretty down. I just kept going over the show in my head, trying to figure out what went wrong. I guess part of the reason no one liked us was because none of us actually knew how to play music. Plus we didn't have any instruments. Then I remembered that no one liked our shows before drought, either. And come to think of it, I was never in a band called Dirty Cigarette Rain Water. And wait a minute, is this backstage or a mental hospital?

I guess the life of big-time rockstar is just bound to be full of tough questions.

impulse buy

this morning i woke up with a hankering for a Big Gulp. it happens to the best of us. it's nothing to be ashamed of. it's probably the most natural hankering in the world. since before the time of 7-11s even, man has occasionally woken up with a hankering for a Big Gulp. how frustrating this hankering must've been for pre-7-11 man.

anyway, i got to the 7-11 and reached for the normal Big Gulp cup. but i couldn't help but notice the special edition KISS themed Super Big Gulp cup. you could get one with your favorite member of the rock and roll band, KISS. i don't have a favorite member of KISS because i don't even like KISS, but Catman appeared to be the silliest of the four. so i took that one.

there was a significant cost difference between the normal Big Gulp and the special edition KISS Super Big Gulp. but i got the latter anyway. and this is why i am poor.

greensleeve guitar tutorial

another music lesson, another song to warm the hearts of babes with. learn to play Greensleeve on the guitar. or play it at christmas time and sing words over it and call it What's This Child. any way you slice it, this is a good song for the guitar.

if you guys know me, you know i'm a big beetlemaniac. it's my humble opinion jon lemmon and pal mccarthy are among the finest songsmen of our generation. their 1979 hit "blackboard" is among my favorites. when i worked out the tablature on the banjo, i just had to share it with the rest of the world.

but dammit. i love major lazer. i've been telling people about them ever since my roommate told me about them after his friend told him about them about a year ago. but i still love them. they pump me up. big time. and our friend eric directs some of their videos. like this one:

zits on your lip

right now, i have a big zit on my lip. the lip is not only the grossest and most embarrassing place to have a zit, it's also the most painful. have you ever had one? it's awful. just awful.

in conclusion, if i ever form a punk rock band, i would like to call it Zits on Your Lip. because that's the kind of attitude my punk rock band will have. disgusting, in your face, and just the most painful thing in the world to try to get rid of.
